American Civil War A Defining Conflict in U.S. History

The war was primarily fueled by disputes over slavery, states’ rights, and economic differences. It ultimately preserved the United States and led to the abolition of slavery. Causes of the War Several key issues led to the outbreak of the Civil War: Slavery Debate The Northern states opposed slavery, while the South depended on it for their economy. States’ Rights vs. Federal Power The South wanted more autonomy, especially regarding slavery laws. Economic Divide The industrial North and the agrarian South had conflicting interests.
